As winter is approaching you all must be very worried about your skin. We all know that winter makes our skin very dry. All of us use heaters in our homes and offices to keep ourselves warm. Using the heater make our skin more dry because the moisture from our skin diffuses into the air, leaving our skin ashen, dull, parched, and even cracked.

The first and the most common mistake will we all do in winters is that we long hot water shower. Most of does not even know that bathing with hot water makes our skin very dry.

Instead of using hot water use warm water so, that the moisture of the skin remains intact.

Use liquid cleansers or mild soaps instead of deodorant soaps that we use in summers. Make it a point to use less soap while bathing. Most of us apply so much soap that they can’t see the color of their skin. Use cleansers that contain petrolatum. This ingredient seals the moisture of the skin and leaves the skin soft and supple.

Those having dry, fizzy and brittle hair blow drying is a big no for them. Blow drying your hair will worsen the situation. Instead of using a dryer sit in the sun for drying your hair. As we all know in winters a good sun bath is recommended. If you are in hurry and you have to blow dry your hair than use it a little less. Hot oil massages are recommended for winters. Heat some coconut or olive oil and massage the scalp leave it over night and wash next morning with a shampoo.

Apply moisturizer 2 times a day one immediately after bathing and before going to bed. After bathing apply generous amount of moisturizer on damp skin. Rub the moisturizer for 2 -3 minutes on the skin so, that it gets completely absorbed. Lactic acid or urea is the two ingredients that should be present in the moisturizer if you have dry skin.

Dimethicone and glycerin are other effective ingredients which help to keep the skin moist. Petrolatum (petroleum jelly), lanolin and mineral oil are some of the ingredients that help to trap the water in the skin. Use thick moisturizers or creams for winters.

Winters are the only weather in which we all want to sit in the sun. Sitting in the sun for long hours will cause sun tan and the aging process gets fast. So, apply sunscreen having SPF 15 or more 15 min before going in the sun. It is advised to reapply sunscreen if you stay more than 30 min in the sun.

Rough and dry hands are common in winters. To get rid of dry hands always wear gloves while washing utensils, clothes and doing various house hold chores. Make it a point to apply a hand cream every time after washing your hands. A simple home remedy for soft hands is mix juice of 1 lemon with some sugar; rub this mixture on your hands for some time. It will make your hands soft.
